More post to come after computer problems

October 10th, 2008

My old computer which I used to run streamwize finally took it’s last breath, hence the hiatus in blogging. I will be making some changes to this blog and it’s primary emphasis (Weather). I’m going to add a category on sports, specifically football.

This winter I’m going to add pictures of winter weather and winter storms. If I have time I’m going to do some model analysis and forecasting on this blog with model screen shots included. I’ve done alot of blogging for weatherbug while switching computers and figured why should I continue writing on that blog when I can write and enhance mine.

Dry August thus far…

August 23rd, 2008

August has been a dry month overall in Western Ohio. Only three days have recieved rainfall… There was an overnight MCS on AUG 5 with 0.95″ recorded, there was 0.10″ recorded on the AUG 7 associated with a cold front. There was 0.01″ on AUG 9 with a light shower. Temperatures have been below normal for most of the month, however the temperature made it to 90 for the first time this summer on August 21.

Overall August temperatures and precipitation have been below normal… I expect this to continue into September… and NAO remains negative and the PDO is in a negative phase… generally this results in negative NAO and positive PNA patterns.

I’ll add more about these patterns and their possible implications to the upcoming winter in my next post.

Light snow on the way tomorrow… cold temperatures will remain through late week

January 21st, 2008

Short-wave across the central Rockies will phase with a short-wave forecast to traverse the southern plains through Tuesday… as much stronger long-wave trof amplifies across the northern plains and upper Midwest. Cold front associated with lead shortwave will affect region Tuesday, light snow will spread into area by late morning. Snow accumulations are expected to be an inch or less. Another shot of arctic air will settle into area for Wednesday through Friday.

Mid-long range models (GFS/ECMWF and ensembles) indicate eastern trof will deamplify over the weekend as a trof amplifies over the east Pacific and Pacific northwest. This will allow for a warm up over the weekend and into early next week.

Light snow possible today… arctic airmass expected this weekend

January 17th, 2008

Light snow is expected to overspread western Ohio early this morning and continue through this afternoon. A strong cold front is forecast to traverse the region this evening, much colder temperatures are forecast Friday. A second stronger cold front is forecast to traverse region Saturday morning, bringing an arctic airmass into the region. Temperatures Saturday night may approach zero with wind chill temperatures -10 to -15.

An update regarding weekend arctic blast will be issued later this morning.

Ohio Weather

January 15th, 2008

Ohio Weather is a web log about daily weather events in Ohio and the lower Great Lakes. I may expand this domain from time to time during large weather events.

Here is a sample of the information included in the blog:

Trough in place across the eastern U.S. will aid normal to slightly below normal temperatures through mid-week, across the lower great lakes. Mid-range models suggest a highly amplified pattern will develop across the lower 48 by late week and into the weekend. A ridge is forecast to develop from the Gulf of Alaska into the U.S. and Canadian Rockies… this will allow for amplified downstream longwave trof east of the Rockies, bringing much colder temperatures.
